Locals make it BIG in Hollywood! Shelby Wulfert, a Placerville native, just wrapped her fourth season on Disney Channel’s hit show, Liv and Maddie. Christian Toma of Jackson, CA is a host on Disney Channel’s Movie Surfers. Gabrielle Haugh, from Sacramento, just completed a Lifetime movie and has another film in post production starring James Franco and Josh Hutcherson called The Long Home. Lauren Stovall from Vacaville, had a principal role in the recently released Elijah Wood film, Cooties and Chido Nwokocha landed a recurring role on the TNT show, Murder in the First.
What do all of these new stars have in common? Yes, they are all from Northern California, AND they all got their start from a TV/Film acting studio in Folsom, California called Studio 24.
And it’s not just these five actors that have gone on to make it big in Hollywood. Studio 24 has been dishing out talent with successful results since 2008. Other students have gone on to have speaking roles on Desperate Housewives, The Mindy Project, Scorpion, The Young and the Restless, Shameless, NCIS, Parenthood, Silicon Valley, and Agents of Shield, to name a few.
What’s the key to their success? The owner of Studio 24, Cody Dorkin, tells us “it’s a combination of things. Studio 24 gives them a place to train for the big leagues while at the same time, providing the guidance needed to navigate the industry. You have to know the business, and we do. You mix that with an ideal training ground like our Northern CA entertainment market, and you have yourself a recipe for success.” Cody Dorkin is no stranger to the entertainment business. In fact, he has his own successful acting career racking up over 100 TV show, movie, and voiceover credits, which he also began here in Sacramento. “For us at Studio 24, acting is not a fairytale career. We’ve seen actor after actor come through our doors and go on to make it to Los Angeles and onto the big and little screen.” – CD
Studio 24 will be holding, for the first time, an open house at their new studio location in Folsom. It’s the only one of it’s kind in all of Northern CA, featuring a TV/Film sound stage, voiceover recording studio, two editing suites, creative room, green room, and more. The public will be able to get an inside look into the entertainment industry and find out how they can pursue a career as a TV/Film actor. They will get a look into what it’s like being “on set” and a peek into the world of voiceovers from right here in Folsom.
Open House Date: September 10, 2016 Time: 11:00am – 5:00pm
