When submitting to a talent agency for representation, your first impression is everything. What is your submission saying about you?
An agency scrolls by your submission, and you’ve got about five seconds to make an outstanding first impression. They’ll know very quickly if they want to interview you or not based on your headshots, resume, and reels. This is why it is so crucial to understand the business side of acting. This directly relates to the quality and professionalism of the materials that are used to market you and your talent.
When I first began seeking agent representation, I got called in to meet with an agency very soon after my submission. Their email asked that I prepare a monologue to perform for them, so I did. As the interview was coming to an end, and I still hadn’t been asked to perform my monologue, I asked if they would like to see it. To my surprise, they responded with “No, we don’t need to see that. We knew we wanted to sign you when we saw the reel you submitted.”
This is the power of having professional materials, and demonstrates the importance of making a great first impression!
Agent representation can be a pivotal step in your acting career. Do not take this step lightly! Take the destination of your career into your own hands by highlighting your talent and professionalism before submitting to an agent. This means having professional headshots to market your look, and quality reels to showcase your talent or personality.
Trust me, it does matter. Remember, you are what you appear to be.
